Benson's Bug Bites. And so it begins ...

This is my first Bug Bites blog, and I am not writing about bugs but, rather, about you.

Where do I start?

Years ago, I had an opportunity to advance my education in urban entomology and I took it. I am privileged. Some of you wish you could have done that but for whatever reason did not have the same opportunity. But isn’t it rich today, when all hell breaks loose from a pandemic, that I with all my degrees am considered non-essential and you on the front lines protecting human health and property ARE essential.  So, this is about you. What you do. How you serve others. And rightly so.

You pick up the nasty trash bag that no one else would. You go behind the slimy dumpster. You go back into the crawl space where others are afraid to go.  By and large, you are a dirty, sweaty, callused-hands lot. And every time you emerge from a crawl space or finish a tough service treatment, you should raise your head high, for you do what most others would not do. Why? Well of course for a paycheck, but there are easier ways to make money. Deep down you do it because you have a heart of service. And that makes you an unsung hero of the pest control silent service.

As for me, I am privileged. I am privileged to be an entomologist who can serve you. And as long as I am able, I pledge to do that. Research. Teaching. Extending knowledge to help you, and help others.

So, under the trash bags and deep into the crawl we shall go with Bug Bites.
